Grahame Park’s community sporting event, Urban Gamez, is in its 6th year and really had something to offer everyone – including the 150 children and young people who took part in the day.
From an inspiring athlete, face painting and the high-energy 60 metre dash, the concourse was packed with people getting out and involved in the activities on offer!
Varied activities such as rowing machine games provided by Rolling Base, skipping challenges well as the stand-out Urban Gamez t-shirts and prizes.
One of the best things about Urban Gamez says one the event’s organisers, is seeing children compete and take part year after year in the electric 60 metre dash which is a fast sprint down the concourse.
Charlie Kanerack, Barnet Homes’ Early Intervention and Prevention Manager, said:
“One of the boys who won a 60M race is on his third medal this year! I remember him first competing in Urban Gamez three years ago and it’s fantastic to see him still enthusiastic about running as he gets older.”
There was even a British Champion in attendance at the event. Wrestling champ Chloe Spiteri joined in with the organisers on the day and even helped to co-ordinate young people in the races. Chloe is the only senior female wrestler in London and is working towards Rio Olympics 2016.
Barnet’s Mayor, Cllr Mark Shooter, also attended the event and was very impressed to see how the event brought large numbers of the community together:
“I know that the Urban Gamez has become something of a summer institution in Grahame Park and after attending this year’s event I can see why. I was delighted to see so many children and young people getting out and being active as well as learning more about how to include healthy living as part of their lifestyles.”
The Mayor continued: “Urban Gamez is also a fitting way to cap off the summer holidays – I was delighted to see so many of Grahame Park’s community come out and support their budding athletes.”
