Later this year the new 4G (fourth generation) mobile internet service, which allows mobile access to the internet at super fast speeds on smartphones and tablets, will start in theUK.

The new 4G mobile services operate at 800 MHz, which is a similar frequency to Freeview. This is why you may have recently received a postcard from an organisation called at800. This says that you may get some problems such as loss of sound, blocky images or loss of TV channels.

But help is at hand from Barnet Homes and at800.

Homes with an individual aerial

If your house, bungalow or flat uses an individual aerial system in an area which is likely to be affected, at800 may send out one filter free of charge per household before the switchover starts. Alternatively, at800 will send one free of charge on request if you suffer problems when 4G starts.

Filters are simple plug-in devices which are normally installed in the back of the television. Fitting instructions are provided, so it’s easy to do.

For those who are 75 or over, registered as disabled, blind or partially sighted, or have lived in a care home for six months or more, then at800 will send an engineer to fit a filter free of charge.

Homes with a communal aerial

If you live in a flat connected to a communal aerial system and you have problems please call us. We can then arrange for one filter to be installed to the communal aerial equipment.

If you still experience problems once the communal filter is fitted you will then need to install a filter to your own flat, so please contact us to have one posted out. You can buy filters at reputable DIY stores and online.

You are unlikely to experience problems if you watch cable or satellite television.
