Our Sheltered Housing Team organise events for older people throughout the year and one of the most popular events with residents is the annual Sheltered Housing snooker tournament which started over the Easter weekend.
It’s a fantastic opportunity for residents in our Sheltered Schemes not only to socialise, but really get into the spirit of the snooker tournament by organising each match with the other sheltered schemes.
Pictured with the trophy is one of our Sheltered Housing residents, Donald Crickmay, 85, who is off to a fine start this year – he won the snooker tournament overall in 2016.
No doubt his fellow residents will be cue-ing up to take the winning spot from him this year.
Events at our sheltered schemes, like this snooker competition, are the perfect opportunity for older people from schemes to meet each other and socialise. We know that research has shown that getting out and meeting other people plays a vital role in combating loneliness and social isolation in older people.
Barnet Homes’ Sheltered Housing Team organise a number of varied events and activities throughout the year across all our services to ensure our residents and older residents across the borough have the opportunity to interact and ensure they do not feel isolated and alone, which can be an issue on occasions like Easter and Christmas. Our next Sheltered Housing tea dance is coming up in the summer, with breakfast and lunch clubs plus snooker matches to look forward to in between.
