The British summer may be not be in full swing yet, but we got the chance to visit a resident of our Christchurch Close Sheltered Housing scheme today who would certainly brighten up the day of anyone she happens to meet.

Joyce has been living in Christchurch Close sheltered unit for a few months now, after completing her move out of Moreton Close (which is being replaced with an dementia-friendly extra care scheme) where she had lived for a number of years.

Aside from a very warm welcome and getting out some of her treasured photos, (which included her wedding picture and meeting a previous Barnet Mayor, Hugh Rayner, at one the sheltered tea dances) – Joyce had nothing but positive words to say about the Barnet Homes staff who helped her move from Moreton Close.

Joyce said: “Susan [Blackburn] helped me with everything to do with my move, driving me to the shops to purchase things like a fridge for my new home. Lorraine [Clarke] was also wonderful and Roger Ellul too.”

Susan Blackburn said: “We all worked really well as a team during the Moreton Close decants.”

“It’s much more comfortable – it’s obviously a very special place here.” continued Joyce, a retired nurse.
