Barnet Homes supported the launch of and had been involved in the Building Minority Engagement (BME) Project, which due to its success and demand for its services, is still continuing to help provide support in the community.
The initiative was launched after research showed 41 per cent of residents from our Black African community were struggling with rent arrears.
Barnet Homes helped launch this service by training volunteers from within Barnet’s communities to help promote sustainable and local support networks. The success of this service is down to the one-to-one support given in an informal setting where you can talk about issues and barriers you may be experiencing relating to your tenancy or changes brought about by welfare reform.
Your local volunteer can also provide you with practical tips around money management and signpost you to other organisations for further support.
If you feel you could benefit from the kind of support delivered by this project, please contact the team by emailing bme.advice@gmail.com or you can call 020 8359 7120.
