More residents will be able to receive support and guidance in the search for long term employment thanks to a new work club opening in Barnet.

The work club is being launched by Barnet Homes on Wednesday 20 February at the Rainbow Centre, DollisV alley Drive, EN5 2UN, between 1pm and 4pm. The club will then meet every Wednesday afternoon at this time.

It is the third work club set up by Barnet Homes as part of its ‘Feeling the squeeze?’ campaign, launched in 2009 to help residents through the economic downturn by promoting training and employment opportunities, apprenticeships and financial support.

Residents will be able to receive help with everything from CV writing to interview skills at the work club, as well as the opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas with other jobseekers

Experienced advisors and local volunteers will be on hand to help residents with searching and applying for a job. This includes tailored advice and information on gaining new skills and work experience, as well as tips on where to look for vacancies.

Attendees will also be able to make use of computers with free internet access to search for vacancies online.

Barnet Homes Chief Executive, Tracey Lees, said: “We’re delighted to open this work club for residents living in and around Dollis Valley.

“From April the government’s welfare reforms will start to have an impact on many of our residents, so it’s vital we support them into work through initiatives like our work clubs.

“We’re continuing to work hard to support our residents and the local community we serve through our ongoing ‘Feeling the squeeze?’ campaign, which provides training opportunities, apprenticeships and financial support.”

Barnet Homes also runs and supports two more work clubs:

  • on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from 9.30am to 11.30am at Burnt Oak Resource Centre, 102 Watling Avenue, Edgware HA8 0LN
