Barnet Council has partnered with energy-saving app equiwatt to help residents cut energy use – and get rewarded for it.
By signing up for free and connecting your smart meter, you’ll receive alerts about high-demand periods (usually early evenings). When you reduce or shift your energy use during these times, you’ll earn points that can be redeemed for shopping e-vouchers and charitable donations. It’s a small change that makes a big difference – to your bills and to Barnet’s ambition to become a net zero borough by 2042.
Take part as follows:
- Download the free app and connect your smart meter (and smart devices if you have them)
- Enter the code: BARN at sign-up to earn your 100 point bonus
- Receive alerts about ‘equivents’ – times when energy demand is high.
- Shift or reduce your energy use during these times by turning off appliances or delaying use
- Earn points for every energy-saving action, redeemable for vouchers, cashback, or charity donations.
Whether it’s turning off your tumble dryer for an hour or delaying your dishwasher run, you’ll be helping ease pressure on the grid, cut carbon emissions, and even plant trees through referrals.
