During periods of hot weather, Barnet Homes would like to remind residents to take care during periods of hot weather. High temperatures can increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, particularly for older people, young children, and those with existing health conditions.

Top tips to stay cool:

  • Keep curtains and blinds closed during the day and open windows when it’s cooler, especially at night.
  • Drink plenty of water and avoid too much alcohol or caffeine.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting clothing and take cool showers if needed.
  • Stay out of direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm where possible.
  • Check in on family, friends, and neighbours who may be more vulnerable.

Please watch for signs of heat-related illness, such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, excessive sweating, or confusion. If symptoms become severe or do not improve, seek medical advice from NHS 111. In an emergency, or if someone shows signs of heatstroke, call 999 immediately
