Barnet Homes has been awarded £45,000 as part of the Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES), which will support improvements at the Grahame Park and Gadsbury Close estates.

The funding will enable works on district heat networks on the two estates, serving over 700 residents. This will ensure residents are given a heating service which represents best value for money for them.

The work will contribute to Barnet’s aim to become a net zero council and borough by 2042.

Across England, the capital grant funding from the HNES will unlock efficiency improvements that will result in fuel savings of around 348,600kWh per year, resulting in annual carbon savings in England and Wales of 52,526 tonnes per year.

To put this into perspective, HNES is helping to reduce carbon emissions by the equivalent of over 455 one-way flights from London to New York every year.

Elliott Sweetman, Group Chief Executive of The Barnet Group said: “This funding is a positive step forward for The Barnet Group as we work alongside Barnet Council to achieve the borough’s net zero goals.

“By investing in the efficiency of our heat networks, we are prioritising the delivery of reliable and cost-effective heating for our residents, while actively supporting a more sustainable future for our communities.”
