Dear Ms Gomes,
Thank you for your request dated 8 August 2022, we have treated this as a Freedom of Information request. You have asked for the following information:
I would like, if possible, information about all the Tenants Residents Association registered in your Borough.
In details:
Each TRA name, address, and the date they were registered (in case they are no longer active on the date it was closed)
If it’s impossible to provide the details above, I would kindly request a document stating the total of TRA in each electoral Ward. Including all Wards.
Barnet Homes’ response:
Overview
Barnet Homes was established in 2006 as an ALMO (Arms Length Management Organisation) to manage council homes on behalf of Barnet Council. Its management duties include providing support to Tenants Residents Association (TRA’s) that were in existence, where a 100% of residents lived in council housing. 40 TRA’s were recorded as part of the handover from the Barnet Council in 2006
A review was undertaken in 2007 to ascertain the ‘active’ statuses of the 40 Tenant/Resident Association. 11 were found to be in existence and active, with the remaining 29 dormant or inactive. We do not hold records for the inactive TRA’s
Between 2007 and 2019 a total of 13 groups were ‘active’, this includes of two community groups
In 2020 a further review was undertaken to ascertain the ‘active’ statuses of the 13 groups. One TRA was found to be active with the remaining 12 closed.
The review found
- Many had been dormant for some time and only existed in name
- Members including committee members of the TRA had moved or passed away
- TRA no longer felt their representation was fit for purpose or reflective of the communities needs
- Demographic change in communicate associated with development and building of new homes through regeneration
- Decrease in level of interest
Barnet Homes currently has one active Tenant/Resident Association on its registers, Granville Road Resident Association. We are not in a position to provide their contact details without their consent.
Please note
Barnet Homes solely supports and keeps on record TRA’s where the tenant base is from a council home tenancy. We do not keep record of TRA’s that have been established by private homeowners or social housing homes that are managed by other social landlords in the London Borough of Barnet as we are not required to do so.
