The control of pests is an important part of creating a healthier place to live. Pests are insects and rodents that invade our homes and can pose a risk to health. Tenants should aim to keep their homes clean and in a way which would not encourage pests to infest their homes.

If you are a tenant, Barnet Homes will deal with certain pests classified by Environmental Health as being a statutory nuisance inside the home and communal areas. Barnet Homes will not take action for pest control issues where it is not our responsibility. This includes if the pest infestation is outside such as in the garden or the street or if you are a leaseholder or shared owner.

The table below explains our pest control responsibilities:

Click here to contact us to report a pest problem. Once reported to us, pest control infestations will be completed by an approved Subcontractor on our behalf and they will contact the tenant directly to arrange an appointment. The Subcontractor will carry identification cards (ID), with their photograph and job title clearly shown. If you are in any doubt as to the identity of any visitors to your property, or if they are not carrying any I.D, please call the Barnet Homes Customer Contact Team on 020 8080 6587 immediately.

For pest infestations which are tenant’s responsibility to deal with, you may wish to contact the London Borough of Barnet’s Environmental Health Team to find out the different options they offer for treatment of these pests: website www.barnet.gov.uk/environmental-problems/pest-control or telephone 0208 359 7995. Please note that you will have to pay for these services.

As infestations can cause serious environmental health issues, if infestations are not treated and pose a growing health risk, we may have to intervene and complete remedial actions on the tenant’s or leaseholder’s behalf, the cost of which will be recharged to you.
