Services and provision for young people in Barnet

Unitas Youth Zone is open 7 days a week with over 20 activities available to young people, this includes; Sports, indoor rock climbing, boxing & martial arts, arts, crafts & fashion, fitness centre, dance & drama, garden & outdoors, enterprise & employability, film & multi-media, music & production, restaurant & kitchen and health & wellbeing.

 

FUSE youth club provides a vibrant, safe environment for young people to engage in sports, arts, music, and educational activities.

 

Art Against Knives prevent young people from becoming victims or perpetrators of violent crime. They embed creative spaces in London’s most isolated communities, co-designed with young people, that build on their strengths and create opportunity.

  • Aged 16-17 Joint assessment: A joint approach between Early Help, Children’s Social Care and Barnet Homes will be taken either to prevent homelessness or find a safe solution for any young person who is homeless or threatened with homelessness. If it is an emergency, then the necessary actions will be taken, however, there is normally a wait to schedule an appointment that suits all relevant departments.
  • Aged 18+ Mediation/ unannounced home visit: If you have been asked to leave by a parent/carer/friend, a mediator will be in contact to discuss what your options are. An unannounced home visit may or may not be carried out to verify your circumstances and speak with you and your parent/carer/friend.
  • Making a homeless application: You will need to provide evidence of eligibility and your homelessness (a signed and dated note asking you to leave the property/a notice from your landlord/NASS accommodation letter/etc.) These are just a couple of many documents you will need to provide once an application has been started.
  • Priority need: You must be eligible for housing assistance and found to be in priority need in order to be housed. Temporary accommodation will not necessarily be in the borough of Barnet and does not guarantee a council property in the long run.
  • Non-priority: If you are found not to be a priority, you will be given advice and signposted to relevant agencies for further assistance. This includes websites like spareroom.co.uk in order to find suitable accommodation. If you are not a priority, the council do not have a duty to house you but must assist with relevant information.
