Keep your home eBike and eScooter safe
eBikes and eScooters are a fast growing fire risk in residents’ homes and communal areas. These appliances contain lithium batteries, which are often low quality and chargers can become faulty. Please follow these steps to keep you and your neighbours safe from fires.
- Buy your e-bike or e-scooter from a reputable seller.
- Never block fire escape routes or exits with an e-bike or e-scooter.
- Follow the manufacturer’s storage, charging and maintenance instructions.
- Only use the correct charger for your battery, and unplug when fully charged.
- Never charge your e-bike or e-scooter unattended or whilst you are sleeping.
- Do not modify or tamper with the batteries. If repairs are needed, get a professional to carry them out.
- Fit working smoke alarms where you are storing or charging your e-bike or e-scooter.
- Never try and tackle a fire yourself. Get away safely and call 999.
