Barnet’s gardening clubs continued with their positive streak this week with their hard work being recognised at the Mayor of Barnet’s annual awards night.

Angela Shine and Elizabeth Fitzgerald were absolutely thrilled to be able to attend Barnet’s Civic Awards, held at Hendon Town Hall on Tuesday night, on behalf of gardening club members across the borough.

Although they did not win this time, their green-fingered efforts in gardens and balconies across the borough were officially recognised with a special certificate.

However, the late Julia Leszczak, the resident involvement officer who originally submitted the nomination form for the gardening clubs just before she died, was not far from the thoughts of the gardening club members on the night.

Julia was passionate about the power of engagement through gardening and worked hard to increase membership of the clubs.

For that special reason, our gardening clubs are always winners – here’s to another ten years of gardening clubs in Barnet.
