In her spare time,  Barnet Homes’ Housing Assistant Stephanie Van Damme  volunteers for a local charity called Herts for Refugees. In a few weeks, she will join dozens of other local volunteers and start packing the next containers of donated winter clothing and other items to refugees in camps around Europe.

Herts for Refugees is a charity that was started by  local people in Hertfordshire who wanted to do something to help displaced people in camps in Syria and Europe when the severity of the refugee crisis started its peak in 2015.

Stephanie is asking for anyone who has any second-hand or unused children’s winter clothing items to please not throw them away, but to donate them to Herts for Refugees.

Stephanie decided to become a volunteer with this charity because: “It was breaking my heart to see children going through such awful experiences that no one in a first world country has ever had to experience themselves.”

Herts for Refugees are especially looking for hats, gloves, scarves and coats in sizes from new born to school age children. Baby blankets would also be most welcome. The charity regularly sends storage units full of donated clothing and other essential items to camps in Syria and around Europe.

The next convoy of units to the camps is due to leave the first week of February. Spring clear-out season is coming soon, so if you do have any children’s winter clothing you need to shift, don’t throw them away, please contact Herts for Refugees using the below link:
