As your landlord, your safety is our priority which is why we have to ensure an annual gas safety check is carried out in all our tenants’ homes to make sure the gas appliances are in good working order and are safe for you to use. It’s also a legal requirement.
Engineers from our contractors Robert Heath Heating carry out the annual gas safety checks on our behalf, please let them in. They will be in uniform and always show you official identification if you are unsure.
What’s in a gas safety check?
- Full gas boiler service
- All heating and hot water controls fully inspected
- All radiators, radiator valves and pipe work inspected for leaks and test radiators are heating up correctly (water heaters are also included as part of the gas safety service)
- Carbon monoxide detector (where fitted); replace any found to be defective or over four years old.
- All gas pipe work checked for safety
- Your gas cooker and installation all checked and recommendations made if found to be unsafe – Barnet Homes has no responsibility for tenant-owned gas cookers.
Failure to allow access will leave us with no choice but to seek legal action under the terms of your tenancy agreement.
Once the gas safety check is completed, you will be asked to complete a Landlord’s Gas Safety Record Certificate.
