We recently marked International Women’s Day 2016 with a special event to celebrate the double success of our domestic violence and abuse One-Stop-Shop drop-in service and women’s refuge.

The occasion was a celebratory event carrying an important message about what we, alongside  our partners are doing to help victims of domestic violence start new lives. You can read more about the event in atHome Spring 2016 – out now.

The afternoon was attended by Barnet Homes’ Chief Executive Officer Troy Henshall, Barnet Council’s Councillor for Community Leadership, David Longstaff; a Met Police representative and most importantly, a very young service user who is able to start rebuilding her life as a result of the support from Barnet Homes domestic violence refuge.

Barnet Homes’ Assistant Director of Operations, Kate Laffan said: “A very brave service user who recently stayed in the Barnet Homes’ domestic violence refuge spoke today about how grateful she was for the support she got not just from staff, but from the other women living in the refuge. She was able to build her confidence during her time in the refuge and subsequently, our Let2 Barnet Team secured a long-term home for her and her little girl. Positive outcomes like this make the hard work that went into planning and opening the refuge and the One Stop Shop all worthwhile.”

Barnet Homes’ domestic violence and abuse One-Stop-Shop takes place every Thursday from 9:30am – 12:30pm at Barnet House in Whetstone. You can also contact the service by phone on 020 8359 4797.
