Spring has officially sprung and Barnet Homes hosted a ‘mass spring clean’ that got more than 100 members of the community turning out to get Grahame Park’s concourse ready for a new season.
The famously unpredictable spring weather actually held up for the event, which was organised by Barnet Homes’ Regeneration and Community Engagement teams. What made the event particularly special is that people from across the community turned up to support it and get involved.
“It was just brilliant to see all the families that turned up and so many children helping out with the gardening.” said Julia Lesczak, Barnet Homes’ Community Engagement Officer.
“Now that the community garden has been planted there’ll always be lots of gardening jobs for the youngsters to do and it will be amazing for everyone to see the flowers blooming in a few months’ time.”
Staff from the Caretakers and Grounds Maintenance teams at Barnet Homes provided extra elbow-grease and put up beautiful hanging baskets; contractors Lovell provided paints and other materials and volunteers from Saracens, NutMeg CommUNITY and local charities all joined in.
Youngsters from the West Hendon Youth Project and it’s youth gardening group joined in with the spring clean as well as enjoying a chocolate Easter-egg hunt – just in time for the Easter holidays!
