A tenant from East Finchley is set to become a director of social landlord Barnet Homes after almost 1,500 fellow tenants voted in Board elections.
Angela Purcell, a tenant who lives on The Grange Estate, received more than 800 votes from Barnet Homes residents invited to select their preferred resident director from a shortlist of three.
Angela, who will be formally appointed as a director at Barnet Homes’ Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 29 November, was one of the founding members of the Performance Advisory Group – a group of residents who monitor Barnet Homes’ performance and recommend improvements direct to the Board.
She joins two other residents on the Board – the Board Chair Vi Britchfield, a leaseholder from Whetstone, and David Atta, a tenant who lives on the West Hendon Estate.
Angela said: “I’m really honoured to be voted in as a resident Board director. I feel it’s vital to focus on partnership working within all sectors and support each other to reach common goals.
“My own experience as a resident can now be fully utilised at the highest level, and I hope that will bring a sustained improvement to the quality of life of Barnet Homes residents.”
Barnet Homes’ Director of Business Services, Troy Henshall, added: “We pride ourselves on being an organisation that is steered by the people it serves.
“We’re pleased that so many of our residents took the time to return ballot papers. I’d like to congratulate Angela on her election to the Board from a very strong field of candidates and we look forward to working with her as a director.”
The other election candidates, Maxwell Doku and Michelle O’Connell, both secured just over 320 votes. All three candidates were put forward for election following an assessment and interview process.
Angela will replace Kenny Bennett, a tenant from Muswell Hill, following his retirement from the Board at the end of November.
