Residents on a Burnt Oak housing estate pitched in with staff from local organisations to give their neighbourhood a one-day environmental makeover.

The clean up at the North Road Estate on Saturday 28 May was part of the Noise event, hosted by the Burnt Oak Christian Fellowship with support from social landlord Barnet Homes and the police’s Burnt Oak Safer Neighbourhoods Team.

Dozens of volunteers gave up one hour of their time to improve the environment by litter picking, removing graffiti, smartening up overgrown areas and doing small gardening jobs for other residents who need some help with their garden.

The Noise event also featured Bank Holiday fun for all residents on Monday 30 May with an obstacle course, games, free barbeque, face painting, cake stalls and more on the green at East Road, HA8.

Barnet Homes Director of Operations, Derek Rust, said: “The Noise event is a great community initiative which encourages residents to take ownership of and pride in their local environment. We work hard to maintain our estates, but the help of residents makes a real and lasting difference. I am pleased so many residents at the North Road Estate pitched in for the clean-up.”

Event Organiser, Amanda Ottaviani from Burnt Oak Christian Fellowship, said: “We wanted to encourage the local young people and adults to participate in community work and give them more awareness of the needs of their neighbours. It was good to see so many of them out over the weekend helping.

“Everyone enjoyed the Monday fun day and it was an opportunity for everyone to come together after their hard work and enjoy each other’s company.”
