Television across the UK and the rest of the world is going digital.
The existing analogue TV signal will be switched off and replaced with a new, stronger digital TV system.
The digital TV switchover is government policy and will mean that almost everyone will be able to receive digital TV through an aerial (Freeview).
Digital TV also uses less broadcast space, which means that after switchover there will be more room for new services such as wireless broadband, local TV and high definition television (HDTV).
For TV services in the London area to be maintained, TVs will need to be converted to digital before the switchover in 2012. The conversion can be done through a set top box.
You can find out more about the digital switchover on the
Digital UK website (external link).
