Barnet Council is currently consulting on an Additional Licensing Scheme for Houses in Multiple Occupation.

Well managed houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) play a key role in meeting the housing needs of Barnet’s residents. HMOs are properties occupied by different households as their main residence and include bedsits and certain buildings converted into flats.

There are many good landlords but there are those who do not maintain their properties, leaving tenants at risk.

The council already operates a licensing scheme for larger HMOs, but is now proposing to introduce a scheme for different types of HMOs.  This will help the council work together with more landlords to make sure that homes are safe.

Barnet Council want to hear from residents, landlords, businesses and other interested parties from within Barnet and the surrounding boroughs about their views on these proposals. The Council would also value any views or comments that you have.

As part of the consultation there are events planned where you can find out more about the proposals.

For more details of these events, to register to attend and to give your views by taking part in the consultation, please visit engage.barnet.gov.uk

Questions or alternative formats of the consultation documents can be requested by calling Maryna Rasloutseva on 020 8359 7454 or by emailing hmos@barnet.gov.uk
