Barnet Homes

Moving home

You can sell your home at any time. Please note that if you bought your property through Right to Buy and sell it within the discount repayment period, you must pay back some of the discount we gave you off the original purchase price.

Pre-sale information

When you sell your home your solicitor will normally have to ask us for various “pre-assignment” information, including details of the lease, buildings insurance, service charge payments and future costs.

We will provide this information for a fee. Costs depend on whether you choose our standard or express service.

  • Standard – we will provide the information within ten working days of receiving the correct fee.
  • Express – we will provide the information within five working days of receiving the correct fee.

You must also pay any charges you owe before you sell your home.

Tell your solicitor to contact your Housing Officer as early as possible before the sale is completed. This will give us enough time to prepare any pre-sale information.

Letting your home

If you decide to let your home, you must let us know your new contact details by completing our sublet form.

Even if you have moved out, you are still responsible as the freeholder for:

• paying your annual service charges
• meeting all your responsibilities under the transfer agreement
• letting us know how to contact you in an emergency
• letting us know where we can write to you if you do not want us to send your letters to the property.
