Barnet Homes’ New Financial Inclusion & Support Officer

Barnet Homes has seconded Denise Bracken as its Financial Inclusion and Support Officer for a period of six months.

The new post is to help develop and carry forward the work towards improving financial inclusion for Council tenants as part of our Successful Tenancies initiative.

Denise will initially concentrate her efforts on new tenants who we have identified as being in significantly greater risk of getting into rent arrears. In addition she will be contacting Black African community groups to seek ways of providing greater support for tenants who again have been identified as being at greater risk of getting into arrears.

As well as providing help with maximising tenants access to welfare benefits, Denise will seek to promote independent financial advice, basic bank accounts, direct debit, low cost home contents insurance, credit union membership and the perils of high cost lending.

As a result of the Successful Tenancies initiative, collection of rent arrears has improved whilst eviction and court referral levels are significantly down on last years performance. Denise may be contacted directly at denise.bracken@barnethomes.org   or on 020 8359 4374.
