Moving to Sheltered Housing

We have sheltered housing schemes for older people. Most schemes have staff who support residents as well as a 24-hour call system in case of emergencies. This type of arrangement allows older people to continue to live an independent life while having the reassurance of knowing that support is close by when needed. These schemes also provide opportunities for social activities and friendship.

In addition to the rent, water rates, heating and/or hot water, and service charges, there is a supporting people charge for the services of a Sheltered Housing Officer and Assist alarm. This charge is not optional. If you receive housing benefit, supporting people funding will currently pay this charge for you. Otherwise, you can apply to the ‘Fairer Charging Scheme’ that may be able to pay some or all of this charge.
