Owning your own home is a lifetime ambition for many Barnet Homes tenants but sometimes that just isn’t an affordable option. But now it is possible that you may be able to get your hands on a little bit of your ambition with the introduction of Social Homebuy. This pilot scheme, which Barnet Homes is managing on behalf of Barnet Council, gives tenants the opportunity to buy a share of their current home.
You can buy as little as 25% of your home to start with and you can always buy more in the future. Rent will be charged on the share still owned by the council. Conditions do apply. For instance you must have been a secure tenant for at least two years and have a good rent record, and not all properties are eligible such as regeneration estates, redevelopment areas and Large Panel System properties.
Right to Buy applicants may be able to convert to this new scheme. For more information contact Jenny Barman on 020 8359 4387 or jenny.barman@barnethomes.org
