References
Please complete details for two referees, who should not be related to you. One should be from your current or most recent employer or your current educational establishment. References are normally taken up following interview. We reserve the right to contact any of your previous employers.
Present or most recent employer
Detail the name and address of the organisation, your position and grade, the date you started and the date and reasons for leaving (if applicable). You will also be required to include a brief description of your duties.
Previous employment
In this section, it is important that you include all relevant work experience including part-time work or temporary jobs, work experience or voluntary work, stating employment gaps if any. Remember to fill in fully the name and address of employer, your position and salary, main duties of the job and dates you started and left, including your reason for leaving.
Educational, technical and professional qualifications
You must ensure you provide all the information about your education and qualifications obtained, including those qualifications you are currently studying for. If you are appointed, we will ask you to provide original copies of your qualifications essential to the job upon joining Barnet Homes.
Personal statement
This section is the most important part of your application. It will help us to decide whether or not to invite you to interview. Before completing this section, read through the Job Description and think carefully about why you are suitable for the post, relating your skills, knowledge and experience to the duties of the post as fully as possible.
Review the person specification and include here any relevant details about your skills, experience, training or qualifications that you haven't recorded elsewhere in the application form.
Please provide an example of how you have demonstrated each competency in the past. The example you give should outline what you have done in the past to demonstrate that competency rather than what you would do if a particular situation arose. The example may be from your current job or from an activity you have done in the past.
For example, if one of the competencies in the person specification is 'Customer Focus' it will not be adequate to just state ‘I am good at customer service’. You must provide an example of how you have demonstrated effective customer focus skills in the past. Give evidence in clear concise examples using phrases such as “I developed”, “I planned”, “I organised”.
Please note: You do not have to provide an example for each behavioural indicator under the competency title. One example per competency is all that is required.
When completing this section of the form, try to list your examples in the order they appear in the Person Specification, as this will help when we are shortlisting. Do ensure you mention all relevant experience as we cannot assume anything from a job title you may have had in the past. Feel free to continue on a separate A4 sheet if you need more room, but please ensure you put your name on the top of this.
Additional information
Barnet Homes is a Disability Symbol user and wishes to encourage disabled people to apply for jobs. If you have a disability which you would like us to take into account, please state this on the application form. Please also let us know whether your disability means you have any particular requirements in order to attend for the interview. When applying for a job, you can request key information in braille, large print or on tape.
Criminal records disclosure
If your duties give you access to or the provision of care or service to children and vulnerable adults, by law applicants are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which would be regarded as spent for other purposes. Failure to disclose such convictions will result in your dismissal.
If you are offered a job in these categories, you will also be required to complete a further form and to authorise Barnet Homes to undertake a criminal record check. All information given will be treated in the strictest confidence and will be used for this job application only.
Equal opportunities
Barnet Homes is committed to equal opportunities policies and action to ensure that it appoints the best candidates for any post irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, race, colour, ethnic or national origin, religion or creed.
Please help us meet that commitment by filling in our monitoring form and returning it with your application. The monitoring form is confidential. It does not form any part of the recruitment process and is not seen by the interview panel.
Information for disabled candidates
Barnet Homes are positive about employing disabled people and want to encourage disabled applicants to apply for job vacancies. We are keen to increase the representation of disabled employees and will make any reasonable adjustments to support the needs of successful applicants.
We have been awarded the disability two ticks symbol (external link) by Jobcentre Plus, which means we are committed to the following:
-
to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and to consider them on their abilities
-
to discuss with disabled employees at any time, but at least once a year, what both parties can do to make sure disabled employees can develop and use their abilities
-
when employees become disabled, to make every effort to make sure they stay in employment
-
to take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work
-
to review these commitments each year and assess what has been achieved, plan ways to improve them, and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about our progress and future plans.
