Barnet Council declared a climate emergency following the election in which the Labour Party won a majority of the seats.
Since its inception, Stonegrove Community Trust has placed environmental issues at its core, in the January 2021 Trustee meeting, they decided to commit to becoming a Zero net carbon charity and building by the end of 2023. This is an ambitious target date, but believe achievable based on their work done so far.
Through funding awarded by the National Lottery Community Fund’s Together For the Planet programme, they now have appointed an Environmental Project Coordinator and among other eco projects have a Community Recycling Station, have changed their waste collection services to a more eco friendly company, are fundraising for solar panels and hosting a large Eco Fair in November.
The Eco Fair is free and open to the public. It will bring together local, regional and national partners to highlight the range of environmental activities, opportunities and resources available to residents, professionals and organisations. There will be a host of stalls including:
Dr Bike who are experienced mechanics that check everything on your bike from wheels, brakes, gears and tyre pressure to lights, racks, pedals, saddles and more.
Green Doctors – A team of expert energy advisers who arrange a one-hour phone consultation or home visit with residents to help with their energy use. This service helps residents save money and reduce the mental stress of bills at an already stressful time.
Incredible Edible Barnet – Gardening tips and how to grow your own food advice.
This will be a borough wide networking event in partnership with Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network which is run as part of Inclusion Together.

Further Information:
Stonegrove Community Trust
We are a small resident led charity, who operate the OneStonegrove centre in Edgware, Barnet, North London. We are a relatively young charity who are still very much developing our services and activities for the local community. Up until early 2020 our focus was very much on creating a busy, thriving and financially sustainable centre, and despite the setback of the Covid-19 pandemic our centre is already back to the busiest it has ever been, with an estimated 72,000+ attendances per year. The activities that we run are hugely diverse, across all ages, interests and needs. We work closely with community partners such as FUSE Youth, Age UK Barnet, Child Bereavement Trust, Narcotics Anonymous and many more.
