Last year we marked 10 years of Barnet Homes’ gardening clubs with a special ceremony to recognise the green-fingered efforts of the keen gardeners among our residents in the borough. This year our gardening club members will have to prepare for another special ceremony.

The hard work of keen gardeners in the borough has been officially recognised with a nomination for a Barnet Civic Award.

The Barnet Civic Awards are now in their 16th year and are an opportunity for the borough to recognise the commitment and hard work of those who strive to make a positive difference to the lives of others.

The shortlist is very poignant in the sense that the Barnet Homes Resident Involvement Officer Julia Leszczak sadly passed away earlier in March. She was very active in supporting the passionate gardeners among our residents.

Nomination or win – the gardening club shortlist will be a very special tribute to Julia and the work she did to increase resident  engagement through gardening clubs.

Winners and nominees, will be announced and recognised at an Awards Ceremony in March 2017 hosted by the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor David Longstaff on March 28 at Hendon Town Hall.
