Barnet Homes’ new domestic violence advice service is making a big impact on the people who need it most

Our one stop shop is the first time a multi-agency approach for tackling domestic violence and abuse has been taken in Barnet. From one base, the free service for men and women can quickly address some of the acute challenges faced by victims of domestic violence and abuse.

Barnet Homes One-Stop-Shop only opened on 17 September, but the service is already becoming a vital support for victims of domestic violence and abuse in the borough.

One domestic violence support worker said the service has been a lifeline for her client who has not even been able to muster so much as a smile in weeks. She said:

“I have been working with my client for two weeks not once have I see her laugh until last week Thursday at Barnet Homes One Stop Shop. Finally there was light at the end of the tunnel, what a wonderful feeling for her.”

The support worker continued: “May I take this opportunity to say a mega-thank you to Radlamah and her wonderful team at Barnet Homes one-stop-shop. It was good to be supported especially when the situation looks hopeless.”

Barnet Homes’ Assistant Director, Kate Laffan, said: “Bringing together key specialist partners in one place will make a real difference to people affected by domestic abuse. Feedback from both the partners involved and clients at risk has been tremendously positive. We are keen to help more people in need by raising awareness of this new service.”

The service is led by staff from Barnet Homes Housing Options working in partnership with colleagues from organisations including Solace Women’s Aid, Met Police, Victim Support and others.

The drop-in service can offer advice on options, information, support, risk assessment and safety planning with domestic violence and provide access to domestic violence specialist support agencies.
