We are stepping up efforts to reduce the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning with changes to our gas inspections.
From 1 January 2013 our gas contactors MITIE will be arranging for inspection hatches to be fitted in cases where gas flues are hidden behind walls or ceilings.
These will enable engineers to check that the flues are in good condition and pose no danger of carbon monoxide poisoning, which can cause serious injury or even death.
In these cases, we may need to turn off your gas appliances while the inspection hatches are fitted. We aim to do this within 48 hours.
This measure is due to changes to legislation and is aimed at protecting you and your family, but we apologise for any inconvenience it may cause you.
Our gas contractors MITIE have also been instructed to install carbon monoxide (CO) alarms at every annual gas service check. This is aimed at further reducing risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, which can cause serious injury or death.
