Staff from Barnet Homes have raised over £1,500 in memory of a much-loved colleague by stepping out in a night-time marathon across the capital.

The group of seven staff, calling themselves Carly’s Sole Mates, took part in Shine London 2012’s charity event walking through the night as a tribute to their friend and colleague, Carly Bryan, who lost a long battle with cancer last year.

Since the marathon on Saturday 29 September, the team have collected over £1,500 of sponsorship for Cancer Research UK and are hoping the final total will be even higher.

Colleague Katie Becker said: “Carly lost her life at a very young age and we wanted to do this mammoth walk and dedicate it to her memory, as well as raise money to help find new treatments for cancer. She was a very friendly person and we miss her cheeky ways.”

Two of the team, Katie Becker and Nicki Jervis, also set themselves a personal target of completing the 26.2 miles in under seven hours and challenged their sponsors to double their contribution if they achieved this. Both finished in six hours and 32 minutes.

Tracey Lees, Chief Executive of Barnet Homes said: “I’d like to congratulate the seven staff members of Carly’s Sole Mates for a great achievement. Activities that help others and raise money for good causes are in tune with Barnet Homes’ ethos and values and we support and encourage these.”

Barnet Homes staff have also been supporting national Jeans for Genes day on Friday 5 October. Staff choosing to wear their favourite denims to work donated £2 to the charity, which raised over £300 for Genetic Disorders UK.
